"Harvest of the Flesh"
Acrylic, 2024
Printed on canvas or presentation bond; 30 x30" , 20"x20" or 12"x12".
A painting for Cold Ones for their art auction charity event where proceeds went to Challenge, support for children with cancer.
The prompt given was "Carrot peeling human."
The imagery of this carrot mutant tearing apart a poor human who didn't eat their veggies was inspired by a cut-scene in the video game "The Last of Us", where the main character can get his head split in two by a massive mutant mushroom. As the concept evolved, I wanted to include ribbons of flesh and insects native to Australia (Where Cold One's is based.) and plenty more dramatic gore to balance out the lush nature within the piece.
There is small easter eggs in the produce tags on the carrot in reference to Cold Ones; including their alcohol brand, Grog! and the "little fella" you often see them reference in their videos.
This experience was by far a major chapter of my artist career, and an opportunity like no other. I am beyond grateful to have been part of an amazing cause hosted by an amazing company who were absolutely a pleasure to work with!
